Kore ArmorTek vs Buffalo Leather Gun Belt: Which Should You Buy?

These two belts sit next to each other in the lineup, cost within $10 of each other, and look almost identical in photos. It’s the question we get asked most often about Kore belts, usually right before someone orders — so here’s the straight answer.

The short version

If you carry a holster on the belt every day — especially if you sweat, work outdoors, or live somewhere humid — get the ArmorTek. It’s built to shrug off exactly the conditions that wear a leather belt out, and it costs $10 less.

If you want genuine leather, get the Buffalo. It’s real full-grain buffalo hide, it looks and feels like it, and it ages the way good leather ages. That’s a legitimate reason to choose it, and no synthetic replicates it.

What’s actually the same

This is the part most comparisons get wrong, so it’s worth being blunt: these belts perform the same job identically. They share:

• The same 1.5″ width — both fit standard belt loops and effectively every IWB and OWB holster.
• The same rigid Power-Core center. This is the layer that actually holds a loaded holster up. It is not the outer material doing that work.
• The same carry rating — up to 6 lbs, for IWB, OWB or appendix.
• The same ratcheting track, with over 40 quarter-inch positions instead of a handful of holes.
• The same X-series buckle range — gunmetal, black, nickel, brass, stainless.

So if you’ve been trying to work out which one “holds the gun better,” the answer is neither. They’re rated the same because they’re built on the same core.

What’s actually different

The difference is the outer material, and what that material does over months of daily wear.

Black Buffalo Leather — $69.95

Premium full-grain buffalo hide with a classic matte finish and a natural, rugged grain. It’s the traditional choice and it looks it.

It also behaves like leather. It scuffs. It absorbs sweat. It benefits from occasional conditioning, and if you soak it repeatedly it will show that. Some people want exactly this — leather that records where it’s been. Others find out the hard way that a summer of daily carry is hard on a leather belt.

Black ArmorTek — $59.95

A synthetic-infused composite engineered to look like leather and outlast it. Kore rates ArmorTek as twice as tough as standard leather, and it’s specifically treated to be scratch-resistant, sweat-resistant and weather-resistant.

The texture reads slightly more technical and modern up close — a little cleaner and less organic than hide. At arm’s length, most people can’t tell them apart.

The one difference that decides it for some people: size

This isn’t a preference question, it’s a hard constraint, and it’s the single most useful fact on this page:

• Buffalo Leather comes in one size: 24″–44″.
• ArmorTek comes in 24″–44″ and XL, 44″–54″.

If you measure over 44″, the Buffalo is not an option — it isn’t made in your size. ArmorTek is the belt to look at, and that’s the end of the decision.

Measure over the clothing you actually carry in, with the holster in place, rather than going by your pants size. And note that these belts are cut to fit during setup — that’s what lets one belt fit exactly instead of approximately, but it also means a cut belt is final sale. Measure twice before you trim.

So which one do we actually recommend?

For most people carrying daily, we point them at the ArmorTek — it costs less, it handles sweat and weather better, and the performance is identical where it counts. The Buffalo earns its place when someone wants real leather and knows what owning leather involves.

There’s no wrong answer here, and we’ll happily tell you the cheaper belt is the right one for you, because usually it is.
